And Still I Rise Seminar

Thursdays, Oct. 22 and 29, 2015

Instructors: CONNECT /Abyssinian Ministers

“Up from a past that’s rooted in pain, I rise.”  – Maya Angelou

God provides healing for the journey of life but the first defense against violence is knowledge! Abyssinian in cooperation with CONNECT, an organization dedicated to preventing interpersonal violence and promoting gender justice, will present a special awareness seminar on Domestic Violence. Domestic violence takes on many forms, but through a carefully guided Bible study and interactive engagement, we will shine a spotlight on violence against women. African-American women experience intimate partner violence at rates 35% higher than their White counterparts and 2.5 times the rate of men and other races.

Our goal is to expose the problems that lead to domestic violence and identify what we can do to prevent it in our community. We will also provide information on resources and referral services. Come out and get the facts! If you have daughters, sisters or friends, join this enlightened two-part seminar on domestic violence and SHARE.
