Daily Scripture Readings

Day 1: January 5th

Theme: Commitment 

Scripture: Isaiah 58:6 – “Is not this the kind of fasting I have chosen: to loose the chains of injustice and untie the cords of the yoke, to set the oppressed free and break every yoke?” 

Reflection: Begin this fast by surrendering fully to God’s purpose. Pray for strength and clarity.

 

Day 2: January 6th 

Theme: Trust in God 

Scripture: Proverbs 3:5-6 – “Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.” 

Reflection: Release your own understanding and place your complete trust in God’s guidance during this fast.

 

Day 3: January 7th

Theme: Strength 

Scripture: Philippians 4:13 – “I can do all things through Christ who gives me strength.” 

Reflection: Remember that your strength comes from Christ alone. Let His power sustain you through this journey.

 

Day 4: January 8th

Theme: Renewal 

Scripture: Romans 12:1-2 – “Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship. Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.” 

Reflection: Allow this time of fasting to transform your mind and renew your spirit in Christ.

 

Day 5: January 9th 

Theme: Faithfulness 

Scripture: Lamentations 3:22-23 – “Because of the LORD’s great love we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.” 

Reflection: Meditate on God’s unchanging faithfulness and let it strengthen your commitment to this fast.

 

Day 6: January 10th

Theme: Dependence on God 

Scripture: John 15:5 – “I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing.” 

Reflection: Embrace your dependence on God and seek to remain connected to Him throughout this day.

 

Day 7: January 11th

Theme: Repentance 

Scripture: Joel 2:12-13 – “‘Even now,’ declares the LORD, ‘return to me with all your heart, with fasting and weeping and mourning.’ Rend your heart and not your garments. Return to the LORD your God, for he is gracious and compassionate.” 

Reflection: Open your heart to God in sincere repentance, knowing He receives you with compassion.

 

Day 8: January 12th

Theme: Provision 

Scripture: Matthew 6:31-33 – “So do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.” 

Reflection: Focus on seeking God’s kingdom above physical needs, trusting in His provision.

 

Day 9: January 13th

Theme: Restoration 

Scripture: Psalm 51:10 – “Create in me a pure heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me.” 

Reflection: Ask God to purify your heart and restore your spirit as you continue this fast.

 

Day 10: January 14th

Theme: Joy in the Lord 

Scripture: Nehemiah 8:10 – “The joy of the LORD is your strength.” 

Reflection: Find your strength in God’s joy today, letting it lift your spirit above physical hunger.

 

Day 11: January 15th

Theme: God’s Peace 

Scripture: Philippians 4:6-7 – “Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” 

Reflection: Exchange your anxiety for God’s peace through prayer and thanksgiving.

 

Day 12: January 16th

Theme: Overcoming Temptation 

Scripture: 1 Corinthians 10:13 – “No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it.” 

Reflection: Trust in God’s faithfulness to help you overcome temptations during your fast.

 

Day 13: January 17th

Theme: Gratitude 

Scripture: 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 – “Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.” 

Reflection: Practice constant gratitude today, even in the challenges of fasting.

 

Day 14: January 18th

Theme: God’s Strength in Weakness 

Scripture: 2 Corinthians 12:9 – “But he said to me, ‘My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.’ Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me.” 

Reflection: Embrace your weaknesses as opportunities for God’s strength to shine through.

 

Day 15: January 19th

Theme: Walking in Love 

Scripture: Ephesians 5:1-2 – “Follow God’s example, therefore, as dearly loved children and walk in the way of love, just as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us as a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God.” 

Reflection: Let your fast be an expression of love for God and others, following Christ’s example.

 

Day 16: January 20th

Theme: Humility 

Scripture: Micah 6:8 – “He has shown you, O mortal, what is good. And what does the LORD require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God.” 

Reflection: Practice humility today as you walk with God, seeking justice and showing mercy.

 

Day 17: January 21st

Theme: Steadfastness 

Scripture: James 1:12 – “Blessed is the one who perseveres under trial because, having stood the test, that person will receive the crown of life that the Lord has promised to those who love him.” 

Reflection: Remain steadfast in your commitment, knowing God rewards those who persevere.

 

Day 18: January 22nd

Theme: God’s Protection 

Scripture: Psalm 91:1-2 – “Whoever dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the LORD, ‘He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.'” 

Reflection: Rest in God’s protection today, making Him your refuge and fortress.

 

Day 19: January 23rd

Theme: Perseverance 

Scripture: Galatians 6:9 – “Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.” 

Reflection: Stay committed to your fast, knowing that God will honor your faithfulness.

 

Day 20: January 24th

Theme: God’s Presence 

Scripture: Psalm 46:10 – “Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.” 

Reflection: Take time to be still in God’s presence, acknowledging His sovereignty.

 

Day 21: January 25th 

Theme: Victory in Christ 

Scripture: 1 John 5:4-5 – “For everyone born of God overcomes the world. This is the victory that has overcome the world, even our faith. Who is it that overcomes the world? Only the one who believes that Jesus is the Son of God.” 

Reflection: Celebrate the victory you have in Christ as you complete this fast, strengthened in your faith.
